Endress+hauser COS61 Dissolved oxygen sensor Oxymax
The Endress+Hauser Oxymax COS61 sets a new standard for dissolved oxygen measurement, offering unparalleled speed, accuracy, and drift-free performance. Designed for minimal maintenance and maximum process availability, this sensor utilizes a unique, long-term stable fluorescence layer that is exclusively oxygen-selective, eliminating interference and ensuring consistently reliable results. Its chemical-free operation and easy handling make it an ideal choice for a wide array of demanding applications, from advanced wastewater treatment to sensitive fish farming environments, providing a significant upgrade in measurement technology.
Wastewater Treatment: Optimizing Aeration Processes
In modern wastewater treatment plants, precise control of dissolved oxygen (DO) in aeration basins is crucial for the efficiency of biological treatment, including advanced processes like SBR and Anamox. The Oxymax COS61 excels in these applications, providing fast, drift-free measurements that enable optimized aeration control. This means significant energy savings and improved pollutant removal. Its long-term stable fluorescence layer guarantees consistent readings, even under varying process conditions, enhancing process safety and ensuring compliance with stringent environmental regulations.
Water Works: Ensuring Drinking Water Quality
For water works facilities, maintaining the pristine quality of drinking water is paramount. The Oxymax COS61 is instrumental in monitoring dissolved oxygen levels, which are critical for status monitoring, including preventing oxygen enrichment and mitigating corrosion in distribution systems. Its accurate and drift-free measurements allow water managers to precisely control the water’s condition, ensuring it remains safe and of high quality for consumption. The sensor’s compatibility with optical technology and ease of handling further streamline operations in these vital public utilities.
Industrial Utilities: Biological Treatment Performance
Across all industries, optimizing biological treatment processes is essential for efficient wastewater management. The Oxymax COS61’s ability to provide fast, accurate, and drift-free dissolved oxygen measurements directly supports this goal. Whether in general process water treatment or specialized biological treatment stages, the sensor ensures that optimal oxygen levels are maintained for microbial activity. This leads to more effective organic matter breakdown, improved process stability, and reduced operational costs, making it a valuable asset for industrial sustainability initiatives.
Fish Farming: Supporting Optimal Growth
In the demanding environment of fish farming, dissolved oxygen is a critical factor directly impacting fish health, growth rates, and survival. The Oxymax COS61’s advanced optical measurement technology provides the precise and fast DO readings necessary to maintain optimal conditions in aquaculture systems. Its interference-free and drift-free characteristics ensure that farmers can accurately control oxygen levels, promoting healthier fish and maximizing yields. The sensor’s chemical-free operation also adds to its suitability in sensitive aquatic environments.
Key Benefits: Speed and Stability
The Oxymax COS61 offers a compelling suite of benefits, centered around its speed, accuracy, and exceptional long-term stability. The optical luminescence measurement principle ensures drift-free readings, which is vital for reliable aeration control and continuous process monitoring. Its chemical-free operation eliminates the need for electrolyte handling, simplifying maintenance and enhancing safety. Furthermore, the sensor’s compatibility with existing optical technology (COS31, COS41) allows for seamless upgrades and easy measuring point conversions, boosting process safety and operational efficiency.
Robust Design and Easy Handling
Constructed with a durable stainless steel 1.4571 sensor body and a POM membrane cap, the Oxymax COS61 is engineered for longevity and resilience in challenging environments. Its standardized dimensions (40mm diameter, 220mm length) and G1″ process connection facilitate straightforward installation. The sensor operates reliably within a process temperature range of -5°C to 60°C (23°F to 140°F) and pressures up to 10 bar (145psi). With an integrated NTC temperature sensor for compensation and a choice of fixed cable or TOP68 plug-in head, the COS61 ensures easy handling and high EMC protection.

Measuring principle
Oxygen-sensitive molecules (marker) are integrated in an optical active layer (fluorescence layer). The fluorescence layer surface is in contact with the medium. The sensor optics are directed at the back of the fluorescence layer. The sensor optics transmit green light pulses to the fluorescence layer. The markers respond (fluoresce) with red light pulses. The duration and intensity of the response signals depend directly on the oxygen contents or partial pressure.
