Description
Introducing the HI97712 Aluminum Photometer
The Hanna HI97712 is an advanced, portable photometer designed specifically for the measurement of aluminum in water. It features a superior optical system that employs a reference detector and narrow band interference filters to provide extremely fast and repeatable measurements. This innovative design, which also includes a focusing lens, effectively eliminates errors that can arise from changes in the light source and imperfections in the glass cuvette. The device’s use of a Light Emitting Diode (LED) as a light source is highly efficient, providing more light while consuming less power. LEDs also produce very little heat, which contributes to the electronic stability of the instrument. The HI97712 requires no warm-up time before taking a measurement, making it ready for immediate use.
User-Friendly Features and Functionality
The HI97712 is designed for ease of use, guiding the user through setup, calibration, and testing with on-screen tutorials and animations. This step-by-step guidance ensures that users, regardless of their experience level, always know the next step in the measurement process. A dedicated help key provides instant access to the tutorial mode at any stage. For added convenience and peace of mind, the device includes a built-in timer that ensures consistency between tests and an auto-off feature that prolongs battery life after 15 minutes of inactivity. The unit also automatically logs the last 50 measurements, which can be viewed instantly via the Log Recall Menu.
Built for Durability and Reliability
This photometer is built to withstand the realities of field use, including knocks, drops, and spills. Its new IP67-rated body is waterproof and designed to float, just in case it is dropped in water. The internal optics are completely sealed from external dust, dirt, and water, ensuring top performance in any environment. The HI97712 also utilizes an exclusive positive-locking system, which ensures that the cuvettes are always placed in the same position in the holder for consistently accurate readings. A blinking low battery warning symbol appears when the battery level drops below 10%, and the meter will shut down to prevent erroneous readings if the battery power becomes too low.
The Importance of Aluminum Measurement
Aluminum is present in almost all natural water sources due to its wide occurrence in minerals, rocks, and clays. It can be found in water as a soluble salt, a colloid, or an insoluble compound. These forms of aluminum can also be found in treated water and wastewater because of its use in coagulation processes. While aluminum concentrations greater than 0.2 mg/L can color the water, they do not cause significant human health effects. However, accurate measurement of aluminum is crucial for quality control in water treatment and for monitoring environmental standards. The HI97712 provides a reliable method for these important measurements.
The CAL Check™ Validation System
Hanna’s exclusive CAL Check™ feature provides a simple and stress-free way to validate the instrument’s performance at any time. Using CAL Check™ cuvettes, which are made with NIST traceable standards, the user can easily ensure the photometer is operating correctly. The CAL Check™ screen guides the user step-by-step through the validation process, and if the photometer is found to be out of specification for any reason, it can be easily calibrated to the standard. This ensures that all measurements are precise and reliable.
